Boog is the main protagonist of the Open Season franchise, serving as the main protagonist of Open Season and Open Season 3, the deuteragonist of Open Season 2, and one of the two main protagonists of Open Season: Scared Silly (along with Elliot). He is Elliot's best friend, Ursa's boyfriend, Giselle's brother-in-law, Gisela, Giselita, and Elvis' adoptive uncle, and Beth's adoptive son and former pet.

Biography[]

Beginnings[]

In Open Season[]

Boog lives an ordinary, happy life in Timberline with his owner and adoptive mother Ranger Beth (who raised him since he was a cub) and his teddy bear Dinkleman. When he is driven out into town, he is often on the lookout for his nemesis Shaw and has a friendly relationship with Sheriff Gordy.

When Boog meets Elliot (who is strapped to the hood of Shaw's truck), he develops an intense dislike for him due to his annoying habits. After begging from Elliot to release him, Boog reluctantly unties him from Shaw's truck using one claw, which Shaw immediately notices. Boog then tells Elliot to scamper off into the woods and, as Beth drives off, calls Elliot a "little one-horned freak" under his breath.

Later that night, Elliot arrives at Boog's house and starts to throw jackrabbits at his garage window. Noticing Boog's bowl, he teases him by saying he is like a pet, to which Boog denies. Elliot then sneaks him out, bringing him to the Puni Mart, where they get intoxicated with sugar and throw a massive, chaotic party. Gordy and the police arrive afterward; while Elliot manages to escape, Boog is returned home, where Beth scolds Boog for running off and getting into sugar and sends him back to bed.

The next day, Boog is performing at his nature show when Elliot arrives and tries to hide as he is being chased by Shaw. However, Elliot ends up unintentionally ruining Boog's show and he tackles him outside to kill him out of anger. Shaw sees them and is about to shoot them when he is pushed by Gordy. Beth instead sedates Boog with a tranquilizer gun and then shoots Elliot in the butt. After failing to arrest Shaw (who made a quick escape), Gordy sits down with Beth and convinces her to take Boog and Elliot to the Timberline National Forest for 3 days before open season starts. Reluctantly, Beth complies and bids an unconscious Boog farewell before departing in her helicopter.

Waking up the next day, Boog first notices a flower and is enticed by it. However, when he notices other things, he suddenly freaks out and lets out a horrified scream, claiming that someone "stole" his home. Immediately, Boog blames Elliot for him being stuck in the forest. After throwing Elliot into the air and getting him stuck on the ground, Boog goes off to find his way home. He first comes across a huge tree, which he tries to claw down to make a new path, only for him to be pelted with acorns by McSquizzy and the Furry Tail Clan. Boog takes Elliot as his guide to help him get back home. However, after they end up going in circles and meeting the same animals, Boog realizes that Elliot lied to him and as a result, Boog leaves him in anger and disappointment. When Elliot asks Boog what he and the rest of the animals will do, Boog concludes that they are done. However, Boog eventually warms up to Elliot and becomes best friends with him.

After Boog boldly protects the forest and defeats Shaw and the hunters in battle (with help from his friends), Beth returns in her helicopter to bring Boog back home. However, she notices he has made new woodland friends. Proud of Boog, Beth decides to leave him in the Timberline National Forest (which Beth realizes is his true home) and gives him a hug goodbye before departing in her helicopter.

Boog enjoys his new life in the forest and accepts it, hanging out with Elliot and the other wilds as their leader and best friend. They celebrate by having a rabbit fight, which Boog joins in and gains the upper hand.

In Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run[]

One summer night, Bob and Bobbie (Georgia Engel) leave their RV to go skinny-dipping, leaving Mr. Weenie (Cody Cameron) to guard the freshly baked buns they left on the counter. Boog (Martin Lawrence) and Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) sneak into the RV and discover the cinnabon buns in the trailer. Unfortunately, Weenie is guarding the door.

To avoid waking Weenie, Boog and Elliot climb onto the roof and Boog ties Elliot to the end of a rope and lowers him through the open skylight. Unfortunately, Elliot is distracted by the buns and he salivates, waking up Mr. Weenie, who bites him on the butt, pulling Boog into the trailer. Bob and Bobbie hear noises from outside and think that Weenie is being attacked. Bobbie puts on shoes and a towel to avoid people seeing her naked and goes to investigate. Shocked by what she sees, she screams and accidentally drops her towel, revealing her bare tattooed buttocks (as well as her breasts, abdomen, and crotch, which are off-screen) to a passing police car, whose driver pulls over, fully disgusted by her nudity. Elliot runs out of the window looking for a place to hide, leaving Boog incriminatingly holding Weenie by the tail when Sheriff Gordy (Gordon Tootoosis), breaks into the RV. Mr. Weenie says to Boog that he's busted and Boog responds, "Tell me about it."

In Open Season 2[]

One spring morning, Boog attends Elliot and Giselle's wedding with the other wilds as Elliot's best man. He, along with the other wilds, are growing tired of Elliot's story about his giant antlers. Suddenly, he falls and his antlers crack off, revealing to be fake.

After Elliot witnesses Mr. Weenie being taken away by Bob and Bobbie, he tells Boog and the others about this, they make a rescue mission to retrieve him (with Boog noting that they did not give up when the hunters invaded the forest).

Eventually, when Elliot and Giselle get in an argument, Boog breaks it up and tells Giselle they have to stay together since they are partners. Upon hearing this, a shocked Elliot calls Boog a traitor for siding with Giselle and tells his girlfriend (whom he calls a "traitor-ette") to enjoy her "new-found partnership"; he then tells Boog he doesn't need him and that he can find Mr. Weenie himself, but ends up going in the wrong direction.

In the end, Elliot and Giselle get married and Boog is very happy for Elliot. When Elliot's antler cracks off at the end of "Close to You," Boog winces and says, "Ooh. That just ain't right."

In Open Season 3[]

One morning after hibernation, Boog plans an annual guys' trip to spend time with his male friends; but they are all busy spending time with their families, so the only one left is Elliot. Unfortunately, Giselle reminds Elliot to tell Boog he cannot go on the guys' trip due to Giselle visiting her mother.

An upset Boog goes to the Maslova Family Circus and tries to make new friends there.

When the wilds find out about his disappearance, they hatch a mission to rescue him before the circus returns to Russia. Boog doesn't want to leave Elliot or his girlfriend Ursa, so he allows her to live in the forest with them.

In Open Season: Scared Silly[]

Elliot telling a campfire story about the legend of the Wailing Wampus Werewolf that lives in Timberline National Forest. Domesticated Boog is terrified by the story and decides to "chicken out" of their annual summer camping trip until he knows the werewolf is gone.

Determined to help Boog overcome his fears, Elliot, Mr. Weenie and their woodland friends band together to scare the fear out of Boog and uncover the mystery of the Wailing Wampus Werewolf.

Also, Shaw, now a tour guide, witnesses an unseen creature in the forest and begs Gordy to allow open season and Shaw is determined to hunt down Boog and Elliot and catch the werewolf. To do so, he recruits his old friends Ed and Edna. Meanwhile, Elliot is heartbroken and catches the werewolf by himself alone after Boog angrily breaks up with him. A starving Mr. Weenie believes he is the werewolf. At Dead Bear Gulch, Elliot and Mr. Weenie are both caught by the werewolf with it reveals Shaw inside, but Boog and his friends leaped to the rescue. Shaw is defeated (in which he is revealed to be allergic to hornets) and arrested for impersonating a monster and creating a general panic, and open season is permanently shut down.

In the end the werewolf turns out to be real, but Elliot befriends him by dancing with him as he joins their camp out.

The next morning, Bobbie and Bob return to the R.V. and Bobbie tells Mr. Weenie that today is his birthday. Mr. Weenie says to the audience, "And so everybody did live happily ever after, including Mr. Weenie. The End".

Before the credits roll, the werewolf wants Boog to become a werewolf lady one more time, but Boog refuses.
